Since posting Five (Free) Websites for Poets, parts 1 and 2, I’ve had some people suggesting other sites that could be included in a part 3. After reviewing the suggestions, I decided they were correct!

So, here it is! Five more free websites for poets, writers, and other creators.

RhymeHamster

The best way to introduce RhymeHamster is through this quote by the developer, Jeremy Desmon.

“RhymeHamster started as a tool I built for my own students, and poets are exactly the people I most hoped would find it.”

And I agree! It’s a fantastic resource for finding true rhymes, as well as slant rhymes of varying degrees. All you have to do is input the word you want to rhyme, then check the results! What’s more, they’re organized by syllable, so you can jump directly to the length you need- which is perfect for poets of all stages!

Submittable

If you’re serious about getting your work published in magazines and literary journals, then you need to make a free account on Submittable.

Submittable is where you’ll find calls for submissions for poetry, short stories, photography, novels, chapbooks, and more. Each publication will post guidelines, payment info, reading fees (if any), rules, timelines, and contact info for those interested in applying, and it’s a good ide to read it thoroughly to make sure your work is a good fit.

Discord

Believe it or not, but Discord is one of my favorite web apps to date. It’s more than a gaming chat room- there are numerous writing groups that you can join for community, feedback, support, and inspiration.

Or, you can start your own!

Discord allows nearly infinite servers with text chat, voice calls, video meetings, and the ability to organize your entire group from start to finish. And it’s all free! Gather your creative friends and participate in writing sprints, share your work, organize events, and more.

National Geographic

A big name for a reason, National Geographic is a fantastic place to find inspiration, research topics, and expand your knowledge of the world.

A free account will get you access to most of the site, and there’s plenty of history, photos, science, geography, culture, and animals to explore and admire.

History.com

Like National Geographic, History.com is great for inspiration- especially if you’re writing about a certain time period that you may not be familiar with. Plus, you can sort their content by eras, subject, parts of the world, and more.

You can look up things like “who invented ice cream,” “what happened today in history,” “What does the moon smell like,” and get articles with interviews, scientific research, and photos to satisfy your curiosity and give you ideas for your next work.
