Red flows thickly through our veins-
Life incarnate, rich and vibrant-
The same beneath all colors of skin,
All genders, all identities,
Yet the truth remains elusive
To dense heads and stubborn souls
Blood is thicker than water.
Outdated ideologies demand separation,
Pitting humans against their own
In a vicious game of “who’s worthy”
That goes against everything
The ancient humans believed in-
Tribes, community, helping one another,
And protecting the sacred earth,
Mother to all humans, no matter their origin.
Blood is thicker than water.
Maybe someday, we’ll remember
That we all came from the same place
And have the same blood in our veins,
Despite our outward differences,
And that we have the power to choose
How to treat each other,
For our blood is thicker than water.
