A cat cries in the middle of the night
With tortoiseshell fur and sparkling eyes
Though some may find her an unwelcome sight
To shoo her away would be most unwise
She is the bringer of prosperity
A staunch protector of those she adores
Using her cunning and dexterity
She is the ruler of all she explores
And when her time finally reaches its end
She will disappear and quietly die
And you will have lost a most loyal friend
Without a chance to tell her goodbye
Give thanks to her bones for their selfless aid
And know in your heart that she’s unafraid

This is a tribute to my cat, Jinx, who was the best snake-catcher and mouser around! Long may she reign.
