Five Gift Ideas for Writers!

If you have a writer in your life, you might wonder what gifts they’d like for the holidays. Well, have no fear! Here are five gift categories (and several suggestions) that most writers will appreciate!

Drinkware.

Writing is thirsty work, and all writers need one (or all) of these options:

That way, we have a drink for every occasion!

Other options in this category include:

  • Coasters
  • Coozies
  • Kettles or Teapots
  • Travel mugs
  • Tumblers
  • Shot Glasses
  • and more!

Writing Supplies.

Every writer I know has a problem hoarding pens and notebooks, and I’m no different! So, help them stock up on the basics with:

  • Fancy journals they’ll never write in
  • Good-quality pens (like these)
  • Fresh Notebooks
  • Highlighters
  • Sticky Notes
  • Notecards
  • Planners
  • Printer ink
  • Folders and Organizers
  • Paperclips
  • Markers

Or, if you want to get fancy, you can go for something like:

  • A Quill and Inkwell
  • A Personalized Wax Seal
  • An Old Typewriter
  • Personalized Stationery
  • Business Cards

It may seem mundane and impersonal, but trust me- we can’t get enough supplies! Plus, you always have the option to combine several of these ideas and make a fun little gift basket!

Technology.

Everyone loves a new piece of technology, and we writers aren’t any different! Some ideas for gifts include:

  • Flash Drives
  • External Hard Drives
  • Keyboard and Mouse
  • Good Headphones or Earbuds
  • Cool Desk Clocks (like this one!)
  • Tablet Accessories (pens, cases, etc.)
  • Microphone
  • Webcam
  • A Subscription to Microsoft Office

If your writer has a website, you might consider making their next domain or hosting payment. Either way, they’re going to love you!

Comfort.

Writing is a mental activity, so it’s essential to keep the body comfortable while spending long hours in front of the computer or at the desk. Take care of your writer by gifting them:

  • Blankets
  • Pillows or Support Cushions
  • Writing Gloves
  • A Comfy Robe
  • Candles with their favorite scent
  • Warm Socks
  • Slippers
  • Scarves
  • Wrist Rests
  • Spa Items (Face Masks, Bath Bombs, Lotion, etc.)

Remember- a happy writer is a productive writer!

Gift Cards.

Finally, if all else fails, give them a gift card! They’re not as cold and impersonal as previously believed, and you can make it clear that it’s to support your writer! Send them to:

  • Target
  • Starbucks/ Their Favorite Coffee Shop
  • Barnes and Noble
  • Books a Million
  • Office Depot
  • Or give them a Visa and let them decide for themselves

The writer in your life will appreciate the extra funds- especially if they’re on a budget!

Shopping for writers isn’t as difficult as it seems. Use these suggestions to find the perfect gift for the writer in your life and save yourself from being the villain in their next story!
