If you live in the lower USA, there’s a good chance that you’re currently snowed in (like I am) thanks to the winter storms that hit last weekend. And, because we can’t go anywhere, you may also have a good case of the boredom blues.
I know I do.
So, to keep us from running around the house screaming, here are some things you can do to keep the boredom at bay.
Movie Nights
Movie nights are one of the best boredom busters out there. All you need is a TV, some snacks, and a blanket or two. Then, put on a movie and let the real world fall away.
You can watch old favorites, find something new, or have a franchise-specific marathon (I personally recommend the Lord of the Rings Extended Version) that will help you wile away the hours in comfort.
Play a Game
If you’re snowed in with people, find some cards or a board game and get playing! Or, if you prefer video games (or are snowed in alone), boot up that gaming console or PC and grind away the hours with your favorites. Either way is a win-win!
Read a Book
Getting snowed in is the best time to catch up on your reading! Snuggle up with a cozy blanket and a warm drink and finish the book you set aside and forgot about, dive into a new series, or revisit an old favorite.
Learn Something New
When the normal options fail, you can always take the time to learn something new. Research a topic you’ve always been interested in, embrace a new skill or hobby, or hone the skills you already have- anything to keep your mind active.
If you need somewhere to begin, here are some articles from my archives that will get the juices flowing!

Other Ideas
If none of those options work, you can always do something like:
- declutter a room
- build a blanket fort
- bake/cook something new
- teach your pet a trick
- crochet/knit/macrame something
- paint or color
- blast some music and dance around the house
- sing karaoke
- sit and contemplate existence
I’ve tried almost all of these suggestions, and while they have helped alleviate the boredom, there’s no denying that being stuck somewhere for an extended period of time tends to wear on you.
However, it has allowed me to spend quality time with my family, catch up on some projects, and have a well-deserved rest from my day-to-day responsibilities. And, when I take all that into account, maybe being snowed in isn’t so bad after all.
Are you snowed in? How are you combatting the boredom? Let me know in the comments!
