“There’s an app for that!”
We’ve all heard that phrase, and- for the most part- it’s correct. However, there are SO MANY apps available now that it can be difficult to sort through them.
Thankfully, you don’t need a lot of fancy apps to stay creative on the go! Here are five COMMON apps for writers and how I use them to keep the inspiration flowing.
Google Docs
If you don’t have google docs on your phone already, then this is the place to start. Their app let you access your documents from anywhere, so you can write, edit, read, and (maybe) show others your work directly from your phone.
Pinterest is the place to find writingt prompts, inspiring art, writing tips, and more. You can also collect your “pins” to different boards, so you can create vision boards and inspiration hubs for every story in your mind.
Tumblr
Tumblr is a social media platform that seems intimidating, but it can be useful for writers trying to build an audience. You can start a blog, gather feedback, join writing groups, and get inspired through prompts and artwork- and all through their app!
Hoopla
If you have a library card, then you need Hoopla. With Hoopla, you can borrow books, listen to music and audio, rent videos, and more- which is perfect for researching topics or trying to grow your skills. There is a borrow limit, as with any library, but it’s not limited to what’s available in your local library (like Libby is).
Bookshelf
This one is more for organization than creativity, but it’s useful nonetheless. This app has a built-in scanner so you can log in your books, create digital bookshelved, and organize them in just about any way you like. That way, you always know what’s on your shelves and can stop buying doubles of books you already have.
Bonus App: Fable
Fable is a book-centric social media platform, and you can use it to create TBRs, track reading goals, join book clubs, meet other bookish people, and review the books you read. I’m not always on there, but I like looking back at the books I’ve finished, get ideas on my next reads, and post small updates. If you want to connect with me, my handle is @LadyErynn!
There truly is an app for everything, but that doesn’t mean you need to download them all. These common apps are FREE and can keep your writing mojo going long after you’ve left your computer behind.
