The Gallows

I hear the noises
Of those who dare
To build a gallows
In the town square

The town is buzzing-
Excitement grows
To watch someone swing
From those gallows

I cannot see them
From in this room
But I can sense the
Impending doom

I start to wonder
Who will hang high
But it’s obvious-
That person is I


This is one of the poems that didn’t make it into the final cut for Into the Western Sky, but I still think it’s neat!
