These Trees Know My Name

These trees know my name.

They whisper to me as I walk
Relaying the gossip of the birds
And spilling the secrets
Of the forest

These trees know my name.

They sing through the storms
Offering lullabies of comfort
Against my window
As I face the chaos within me

These trees know my name.

They protect me from the sun
Offering shade and support
As I rest my bones
Against familiar bark

These trees know my name.

They sigh at my departure
Knowing the world can’t offer me
The steady companionship
I’ve craved all my life

These trees know my name.

And, someday,
When the world becomes too much
I’ll return to them
And ask them to remind me
