Nerterology

The operating theatre
Is sterile as can be
With a cadaver on the slab
For students just like me

We’ll take turns exploring
The hair and nails and skin
Then our teacher makes the cut
To let us see within

Through the Y-shaped opening
The organs are removed
Each one gets weighed and measured
Until they are approved

In the vacant cavity
We venture deeper still
Probing veins, muscles, and bones
Until we’ve had our fill

The end of class comes too soon
And some here won’t return
But I like Nerterology
For there is much to learn
